Library Wizards is a student-centered group of ICU Library and engages in a variety of activities. We have three groups, Exhibition Team, PR Team, and Project Team, each group trying hard for our library since the beginning of our activity summer of 2024.
New Student Library Tour in (April / September)
This is a guiding tour of the library for new students. We offer useful information such as how to borrow books and spend time at the library. New students can enter the closed area and see the Automated Storage and Retrieval System where books are automatically moved.
Cafe de Friends (April / September)
This is an event where new students can interact with each other. They can make friends who share interests or hobbies through participating in games and conversation! They can talk to each other about interesting majors and club activities.
ELA Lectures
We hold a library tour and support orientation programs for ELA students in the class. The Library Wizards members stay with ELA students while they are working on the activities, and help them find books, literature, and journal articles!
JLP Lectures
We conduct a library tour for JLP students. We introduce JLP books and explain service in the Othmer library as well as tips to spend your campus life! Of course, we hold a lecture on how to use the library!
New Arrival Books Pick Up (almost biweekly)
Each member chooses one new arrival book and makes a POP display introducing the contents. The POP is exhibited at the shelf next to the library entrance!
The reviews of new arrivals are also being posted on the online website of ICU library. We recommend you to check them! There is probably a wonderful meeting with new books!
Book Selection Tour
Library Wizards’ members go to the bookstore and select books to put in the ICU library. This year, the event was conducted in October, and some members went to Kinokuniya Bookstore Shinjuku Main Store.
Members pick up some books from the store shelf and scan the barcode behind those books by using a handy terminal, an Optical Mark Reader. These books are added in the ICU Library after eliminating duplication.
After the book selection tour, a POP seminar on how to illustrate the recommendation card was held by bookstore staff.

Monthly Exhibition
We decide the theme and choose the best books. If you find any interesting books, you can borrow them. First come, first served.
Examples of past themes:
Drawn into the depth of “Nihon Bungaku”
Books on the far right of the bookshelves
The ICU faculties’ memorable books
New Year Lucky Bag
Introductory Academic Texts (for general readers)
You can check past exhibition themes from the "🔖 Recommended Tags" on this page.
We make posts about monthly exhibitions and Library Wizards members at @iculibrary. Check out the highly rare stories.
Book Perch
There is a board where users can leave a message in the middle of the first floor. When message cards are accumulated on the Book Perch, it becomes a whole tree. We are looking forward to your messages.
Posters
Posters are sometimes displayed at the library entrance, Hon-kan, D-kan, and bus stop. They are also occasionally on the digital signage. Let’s get some useful information!
Events
We will organize and host high school student projects and exchange events at Cafe de Friends in April and September. We also did movie screening and book trade at O’s cafe. Our aim is to plan events that everyone can enjoy!
Magazine
At the beginning of 2024, we published a magazine full of engaging content—inside stories from the ICU Library and activity reports from Library Wizards.
Magazine Production Anecdotes
Anecdote 1: "Should We Add 'Nyan' at the End?"
We are still struggling with how to handle the ending of the sentences for Rari-chan, the official character of Library Wizards. Rari-chan almost ended up using a harsh tone, but we finally settled on adding 'nyan' at the end.
Anecdote 2: "In Search of a Printer"
Due to various circumstances, we ran back and forth for printing from the library to the ERB, then to the Science Building, and back to the library. Since we ended up being away from the printing room with the automatic folding machine, we folded the magazine by hand with care, adding a personal touch.
